Ot van Daalen
Description / Bio
I am an attorney specialising in privacy and security. In 2014, I launched my law firm called Digital Defence. In 2009 I relaunched the digital rights movement Bits of Freedom. As the director, I was closely involved in the creation of legislation in the field of privacy and internet freedom. Now I use my experience to support companies, organisations and citizens, in court as well as in politics and in the media, with complex questions regarding privacy and security.
In addition to my work as an attorney, I am a privacy-researcher at the Institute for Information Law of the University of Amsterdam. I am also a board member of the European digital rights organisation EDRi. Before launching Bits of Freedom, I worked for years at the first-tier commercial law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, representing clients in the high-tech- and telecommunications sectors. I studied at the University of Amsterdam and Columbia University in New York.
